In contrast to last weekend’s main slate, this Saturday is flooded with big favorites with Manchester City and Chelsea leading the way. Those players should be considered, but with seven games on the slate, there are plenty of options to turn to at every price level in the EPL $30K Backheel Special [$5K to 1st].
Leroy Sane, Manchester City vs. Crystal Palace, $8,800 — You can’t go wrong with Eden Hazard, but Sane has a similar upside for much cheaper. Sane also didn’t play in the midweek Cup match so there’s a decent chance he goes the full 90 for City, the biggest favorite on the slate. Sane has made the score sheet in four of his last five starts and Crystal Palace have allowed three goals in three of their last four road trips.
Other Options — Eden Hazard, Chelsea, $10,600; Gabriel Jesus, Manchester City, $8,400; Marcus Rashford, Manchester United, $8,200
Ayoze Perez, Newcastle vs. Fulham, $5,800 — Perez busted last weekend, but now he’s cheaper in a better matchup. He has at least six fantasy points in his last four starts at home with two goals from eight shots and eight chances created. Fulham’s defense hasn’t been much better under Claudio Ranieri, allowing 11 goals and 10 assists in the last five matches, most recently giving up two goals at home to West Ham.
Other Options — Andre Schurrle, Fulham, $6,100; Steve Mounie, Huddersfield, $5,500; Demarai Gray, Leicester, $3,700
Robert Snodgrass, West Ham vs. Watford, $7,800 — Snodgrass has been a steal since October and that remains the case in another favorable spot. He has at least 8.8 fantasy points in his last seven starts and while the goals likely won’t continue, the set pieces will keep his floor high. Watford have also fallen apart defensively, giving up multiple goals in their last five matches.
Other Options — Ryan Fraser, Bournemouth, $8,500; Felipe Anderson, West Ham, $8,100; Paul Pogba, Manchester United, $7,400
Ki Sung-yueng, Newcastle vs. Fulham, $3,800 — Newcastle are in a great position and while it may not be a great move to roster two of their players in cash games, it’s a worthy GPP strategy. Ki should return to his floor around five points after only taking one corner against a Huddersfield team that doesn’t allow many. Plus, Fulham have allowed the third-most crosses (113) and sixth-most corners (31) in the last five game weeks.
Other Options — Alex Pritchard, Huddersfield, $6,300; Stuart Armstrong, Southampton, $5,400, Jefferson Lerma, Bournemouth, $3,800
Ashley Young, Manchester United at Cardiff City, $5,700 — Young has the best matchup of the top defenders so he gets the nod taking the majority of set pieces for Man United. Prior to the trip to Liverpool, he was averaging 10 crosses in his last three starts and now faces a Cardiff side that has allowed the third-most corners in the league (110). The only reason to be tentative is because of a new manager that could change how the Red Devils play.
Other Options — Jose Holebas, Watford, $6,000; Marcus Alonso, Chelsea, $5,600; Matt Targett, Southampton, $5,500
Calum Chambers, Fulham at Newcastle, $3,600 — Chambers didn’t have much defensive activity last match, yet still had 4.3 fantasy points with the help of two shots. He has 12 shots in his last four starts, but helping his floor more are stats like tackles and interceptions, which have stacked up when he plays as a defensive midfielder.
Other Options — Sol Bamba, Cardiff, $3,800; Fabian Balbuena, West Ham, $3,800; Javier Manquillo, Newcastle, $3,700
Martin Dubravka, Newcastle vs. Fulham, $5,200 — Dubravka hasn’t been easy to trust, but a matchup against Fulham usually brings the best out of opponents. Newcastle should at least have momentum after last week’s clean sheet and Fulham have continued to struggle up front, scoring just five goals from 70 shots in the last five matches.
Other Options — Kepa Arrizabalaga, Chelsea, $5,900; David De Gea, Manchester United, $5,600; Asmir Begovic, Bournemouth, $5,400
Neil Etheridge, Cardiff City vs. Manchester United, $3,900 — Etheridge is usually an underdog, yet he’s had at least five fantasy points in his last six starts. It’s unknown what kind of team Man United will put on the field, but that won’t stop Etheridge from making a few saves and finishing in the positive again.
Other Options — Jonas Lossl, Huddersfield, $4,600; Sergio Rico, Fulham, $4,300; Kasper Schmeichel, Leicester, $3,700
