DraftKings Champions League Fantasy Picks
The Champions League is back with another exciting slate featuring a Tottenham vs. Dortmund showdown at Wembley and the reigning champions, Real Madrid, returning to action. Let’s get right to the DraftKings Champions League picks for your fantasy roster.
Fantasy News and Notes:
- Dele Alli has been suspended by UEFA for three games, and will not be available for Spurs.
- Cristiano Ronaldo is available for selection for Real Madrid, his current five-match suspension is only applicable to Spanish competitions.
- Marco Asensio will miss out for Real Madrid due to an incredibly weird injury. See more here.
On to the fantasy picks…(and yes there is a heavy Real Madrid flavor).
Keylor Navas – Real Madrid – $5,900 – Navas represents the safest pick on the board – Real is a massive favorite and should without a doubt pick up a win. The downside with Navas is his limited upside – there is little chance he racks up any saves. It comes down to lineup construction, if you can find value elsewhere Navas makes a strong foundation.
Others to Consider – Claudio Bravo ($5,700), Iker Cassilas ($5,600), Artyom Rebrov ($5,300)
Hugo Lloris – Tottenham – $4,800 – Spurs are at “home” but are not favored to win which is why the French national team keeper, Lloris, is offered at a slight discount to the top tier. This is by no means a safe pick, Lloris will face shots, and if Spurs can engineer a win over Dortmund, Lloris could be the highest scoring goalkeeper.
Others to Consider – Roman Burkii ($4,700), Brad Jones ($3,800)
Marcelo – Real Madrid – $5,900 – Marcelo was red carded in his last La Liga appearance, but the Madrid mainstay is the safest and most consistent attacking wingback on this slate. Marcelo is Real’s corner taker and is a threat for assists and even more going forward. If your roster construction leaves you with money to spend on defense, Marcelo is a safe place to park that extra cash.
Others to Consider – Benjamin Mendy ($5,800), Faouzi Ghoulam ($5,600), Kyle Walker ($5,100)
UPDATE: Kieran Trippier is NOT in the Tottenham lineup.
Kieran Trippier – Tottenham – $4,400 – The Spurs RB will likely be a major part of Spurs’ attack, moving down the right wing and delivering multiple crosses. Due to injuries to Dortmund’s backline, Trippier may have an exploitable matchup with teenager Dan Axel-Zagadou.
UPDATE: Dan Axel-Zagadou is NOT in the Dortmund lineup.
Others to Consider – Dan Axel-Zagadou ($2,500) – Dortmund signed DAZ from PSG, and he’s been forced into some regular time due to multiple injuries to Dortmund’s defense. As noted above, expect Trippier to attack down the wing against DAZ, but for just $2,500, the value is hard to resist.
More Options: Caner Erkin ($3,600)
Gareth Bale – Real Madrid – $8,200 – The Welsh Wizard is offered at a discount to his teammate and frienemy Ronaldo, but he could offer the same scoring punch. Madrid is matched up against APOEL in what should be a very one-sided affair. Bale should line up with Isco and Ronaldo at the top of the Madrid formation, which should mean fantasy goodness for the enigmatic winger. Isco ($7,500) is slightly cheaper and could be part of a stack that includes either/or Bale and Ronaldo.
Others to Consider – Kevin De Bruyne ($9,900), Christian Eriksen ($8,600)
Christian Pulisic – Dortmund – $5,900 – The young American international has been inspiring hope for the future of U.S. Soccer, while also making waves in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund. He’ll travel to Wembley to face Spurs, and there will be no bigger stage for him to continue his meteoric rise. Beware – Pulisic will likely be popular. Pulisic should start in an attacking group with underpriced Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang ($7,300). Although Dortmund is on the road, Spurs’ horrific Wembley record could allow Pulisic and Aubameyang to connect for some big fantasy numbers.
UPDATE: Leroy Sane is NOT in the Manchester City lineup.
Others to Consider –
Leroy Sane ($6,800), Son Heung-Min ($6,700), Nuri Sahin ($3,700)
Cristiano Ronaldo – Real Madrid – $10,600 – Who else? The most dominant force in world football is always the number #1 option on the board when he plays, and he’ll be ready to go in this juicy matchup with APOEL. Ronaldo is working through a five-match La Liga suspension so he’ll have some added motivation to perform. His standard of performance is as good as gets – the upside here is multiple goals, and it’s tough to fade him in any format.
UPDATE: Dries Mertens is NOT in the Napoli lineup.
Others to Consider –
Dries Mertens ($9,600), Sergio Aguero ($9,400), Quincy Promes ($8,100)
Timo Werner – Red Bull Leipzig – $7,900 – The oddsmakers have Werner at a higher probability to score than Dries Mertens, Harry Kane and Roberto Firmino. The RBL man has three goals in three games in the Bundesliga and he could be a major difference-maker in a balanced matchup with Monaco. While $7,900 may not scream value, he’s certainly priced below the elite tier of forward, and Werner may belong there.Others to Consider – Falcao ($7,500), Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang ($7,300), Vicent Aboubakar ($6,900), Wissam Ben Yedder ($5,600)
