The folks over in La Liga have filled the great void left by the lack of European football with a midweek round of games. Things kick off on Tuesday night with a small two-game slate that sees Malaga take on Eibar before the Seville derby is contested between bitter rivals Sevilla and Betis. To kick start your line-ups, the following article looks at a couple of picks at each position.
Sergio Rico – ($5,400) – Sevilla – After being afforded a rest by manager Jorge Sampaoli at the weekend, Rico will be looking to stretch his consecutive run of clean sheets against rivals Betis to five games. In La Liga this season he is averaging some 3.7 saves per game and is part of a Sevilla side that has not lost in six straight Seville derbies.
Carlos Kameni – ($5,100) – Malaga – The least number of goals out of these two games will come in Malaga and the home ‘keeper looks a slightly better option for the win. Malaga are yet to win a game this season, however, both losses have been by no more than two goals and this game is back on home soil.
Mariano – ($5,900) – Sevilla – Another player rested at the weekend by Sampaoli, Mariano will be at his marauding best against Betis. In three La Liga fixtures, Mariano is averaging seven crosses per game and already has one assist this season. Sevilla rarely concede or lose the Seville derby, something that is another plus for the full back.
Cristiano Piccini – ($4,200) – Betis – The Italian right back now has three assists in as many games following Friday’s draw against Granada. Piccini also averages a decent 2.7 tackles and 2.7 crosses per game, the former number likely to rise in what will be a busy game for the right back.
Other choices: David Junca (Eibar; $4,900), Miguel Torres (Malaga; $3,800)
Juanpi – ($6,900) – Malaga – The tricky Venezuelan midfielder is a DraftKings favourite and has been turning it on in La Liga. So far this season, Juanpi has scored once and has had two shots, seven crosses and 2.8 fouls drawn per game. Bolt on his 3.3 dribbles per game and he’s the most reliable player from a fantasy perspective that Malaga possess.
Pablo Sarabia – ($6,200) – Sevilla – Since arriving from relegated Getafe, Sarabia already has two goals and two assists in his opening three La Liga appearances and is averaging a healthy 15.5 fantasy points per game (FPPG). Across all competitions, Sarabia has provided four crosses per game and takes penalties for the white half of Seville.
Other choices: Joaquin (Betis; $8,000), Franco Vazquez (Sevilla; $7,400), Jony (Malaga; $7,200)
Pedro León – ($8,800) – Eibar – León is on three goals so far this season and in the process has bettered the goals total he posted in each of the last two seasons. The former Real Madrid midfielder has scored those goals in three straight games and is also averaging 2.3 shots per game. That isn’t the lot where León is concerned, the attacker also posting 9.1 crosses per game. There’s nothing to suggest he won’t keep up that run this week.
Luciano Vietto – ($7,700) – Sevilla – Centre forwards have a good history in this fixture for Sevilla and Vietto is in the enviable position of leading the line this season. In three appearances, the former Atletico man has three goals and usually manages to get three to four shots in. Vietto also has 15.5 FPPG including a 17 fantasy point day last Saturday against Eibar.
Other choices: Ruben Castro (Betis; $8,700), Wassim Ben Yedder (Sevilla; $7,600)
