La Liga Targets: October 29th

Spanish football is back on the agenda this weekend and La Liga’s big three are all in action on Saturday night. The trio of fixtures involves those teams are all included on DraftKings’ biggest slate of the weekend, contests getting underway at 3:15pm (10:15am EST). This article looks at the best players at each position with options at various price levels. As always, feel free to hit me up on Twitter @JamieHinksDK.

Jan Oblak – ($6,000) – Atletico Madrid – Oblak has been almost unbeatable at home this season, keeping two clean sheets out of four La Liga home games. Oblak, who is one of the few ‘keepers to average over 10 fantasy points per game (FPPG), will be confident of a clean sheet and win against a Malaga team that has scored just three of its 12 goals away from home.

Marc Andre Ter Stegen – ($5,900) – Barcelona – Another goalkeeper who averages over 10 FPPG, Ter Stegen faces the worst side in La Liga in the shape of Granada. The away side are rooted to the foot of the table and have just one point away from home. Expect Ter Stegen to at least pick up the win and there is a strong likelihood he will also get a clean sheet.

Filipe Luis – ($5,200) – Atletico Madrid – One of the most reliable full backs out there, Luis has dropped off the last few weeks and averages just 6.0 FPPG over the last three games. The last two fixtures have been tough trips to Rostov and then Sevilla. Even so, Luis still averages 3.7 tackles per game thus making him one of the best defenders in that department. In a home game against Malaga, expect the Brazilian defender to be one of many Atletico players who return to form.

Sergi Roberto – ($5,100) – Barcelona – Barca have been hit with a litany of injuries and that means two pieces of good news for fantasy players. One, Sergi is not one of the injured players. Two, it opens up a starting place for the aforementioned defender. Sergi already has four assists in six La Liga appearances this campaign and creates plenty of chances. His 2.3 key passes per game is above all other Barca players apart from Neymar and a good measure of his fantasy value.

Ruben Vezo – ($2,800) – Granada – To fit the big stars in your 8-man line-ups, you need to find value somewhere and this Granada central defender is as good a place as any. For a bargain basement $2,800 you get a player who has 4.6 interceptions per game, the third best in La Liga, and 3.0 tackles per game. He averages a paltry 0.8 fouls per game and it goes without saying that he will get plenty of opportunities to score in the defensive categories against Barcelona.

Lionel Messi – ($9,800) – Barcelona – Messi has been a man possessed since returning from injury. In 2.5 appearances, Messi has six goals, one assist and 30 FPPG. The Argentinean also averages four shots per game and, despite that layoff, is the La Liga joint top scorer with seven goals. You should not even think twice about picking Messi this week or any week for that matter.

Toni Kroos – ($7,300) – Real Madrid – Always an excellent cash game pick, Kroos scored 12 fantasy points last weekend against Athletic Club and his most meaningful statistic was seven crosses. No goal or assist to see there. The German has been consistent in reaching double figures all season and, with a fair few injuries in the Spanish side’s midfield, Kroos is almost guaranteed to start every game right now.

Yannick Carrasco – ($7,800) – Atletico Madrid – Carrasco has four goals in his last three games for Atleti and that includes a hat trick plus two assists in the La Liga game before last against Granada. Whilst he didn’t notch at Sevilla last weekend, that was a particularly tough game and the 23-year-old Belgian will be back on his game at home to Malaga.

Cristiano Ronaldo – ($9,700) – Real Madrid – Another easy decision to make whenever playing fantasy football is to pick Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward likes to shoot more than any other player in world football and against Athletic Club last time out he managed 11 shots (two on target). It meant he reached 16 fantasy points without a goal or an assist. Add in goals and assists, and it soon become obvious why he is so valuable to fantasy owners.

Neymar – ($9,500) – Barcelona – The Brazilian forward has been an absolute must have on DraftKings this season, his scoring not once dipping into the single digits and averaging out at 27.4 FPPG. He has two goals and two assists in his last four games for Barca, takes all the corners and the fact he has Messi back alongside him in the MSN triumvirate only strengthens him as a pick. Oh, and the team they’re playing are bottom of La Liga.

Deyverson – ($5,600) – Alaves – Deyverson has already helped himself to three goals this season, the one against Barcelona earlier in the season showing that he can do it against the very biggest guns. Up against a Real Madrid defence that has kept just two clean sheets in nine games, if Alaves are going to score then it will be the GPP-friendly pick from Brazil.
