The Champions League is back after an exciting Tuesday slate that saw hat tricks from Harry Kane and Wissam Ben Yedder. Who can deliver the magic for your lineup today? On a night with Messi, Neymar and Robert Lewandowski all in action, you’ll have to be smart about lineup construction to maximize your exposure to some of the game’s greats. Let’s get right to all the players to target.
- Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele remains out with a serious muscle injury.
- Bayern’s Manuel Neuer is out injured. Sven Ulreich should start in goal.
Let’s get to all the Champions League targets and value options.
Gianluigi Buffon – Juventus – $6,000 – There is typically a theme to this section – safety first. If you plan on spending up at goalkeeper, you want to select one on a team that is heavily favored and in a good position for a clean sheet. Buffon is just that against Olympiacos, oh, and he’s probably the best goalie of all time.
Others to Consider – Marc-Andre ter Stegen ($5,700)
Sven Ulreich – Bayern – $4,200 – Ulreich has stepped in for top-keeper Manuel Neuer, and he’s at an interesting price point against PSG. PSG is obviously favored to score, but Bayern has the team and experience to perhaps limit the damage. Ulreich should see plenty of shots, so there are scenarios that end up with him putting up a more than acceptable score for his salary.
Others to Consider – Alphonse Areola ($4,800) is also interestingly priced. Going against Bayern and Ulreich, a team that is struggling offensively, Areola is a favorite for a win, and at $4,800 he could provide shot-stopping upside. Areola and Ulreich make for tough decisions in what should be a very fun matchup to watch.
Alex Sandro – Juventus – $6,100 – Sandro is a marauding LB who is consistently involved in the attack for Juve. Expect him to contribute crosses in bunches, and perhaps contribute on the score sheet as well. When spending this much on a defender, it will likely impact your ability to take Messi and some of the top forwards. Something to consider on a slate when goals will likely be scored in bunches by teams in good matchups.
Others to Consider – Davide Zappacosta ($5,200), Joshua Kimmich ($5,000)
Stefano Sturaro – Juventus – $3,200 – OK, so Sturaro isn’t actually listed as a defender, but he could slot in at RB for Juventus due to some injuries in the backline. It’s a matter of lineup construction as Sturaro is cheap, but unfortunately, he’s not eligible for the clean sheet bonus if Juve secures it.
Others to Consider – Kieran Tierney ($4,000)
Lionel Messi – Barcelona – $11,300 – Messi is the top target on the slate. Everyone is in the mood to write more with Twitter expanding the character count, but this is all I’ve got here. Messi is the top target. Fine – here’s more. He dropped 35 DKFP on Juventus last time out in the Champions League, and he’s one game removed from demolishing Getafe in La Liga for four goals and 57 DKFP. Fade at your own risk.
Others to Consider – Paulo Dybala ($10,600), Neymar ($10,000)
Scott Sinclair – Celtic – $5,700 – Sinclair has been quite involved for Celtic so far this season, and he’s been productive in Champions League appearances against Bayern (seven DKFP) and in two qualifiers (29, and 16 DKFP). In six appearances in Scottish cup and domestic games, Sinclair has bagged four goals, and at this salary, he’s a high-upside option to pair with the pricey studs.
Others to Consider – Saul Niguez ($6,100), Marcos Acuna ($5,900), Marko Marin ($4,000)
Gonzalo Higuain – Juventus – $8,600 – Is Higuain a little overweight? Maybe. But he’s underpriced compared to some of the other heavy hitters on this slate, and Juventus may be in the most favorable matchup of all. Juventus is projected for a slate-high number of goals scored, so no matter what the scale says for Higuain, he’s a buy-low candidate at this price.
Others to Consider – Luis Suarez ($8,700): I’m not listing anyone else in this section because Suarez offers multi-goal upside against Lisbon, at a discount to his high-priced peers. You would be hard-pressed to find two better forwards than Higuain and Suarez to start a balanced lineup with.
Romelu Lukaku ($9,500) is tough to consider due to matchup and comparable options. He is in good form, so he is at least in the conversation, especially in Pick ‘Em formats.
Lukasz Teodorczyk – Anderlecht – $6,500 – Make sure Teodorczyk is good to go, as there is some doubt on his status for this game, but Anderlecht should be able to put some goals in on a leaky Celtic side, and Teodorczyk will be heading up the attack if he’s in the lineup. Teammate Henry Onyekuru ($6,000) is another tempting Anderlecht attacker.Others to Consider – Ricky van Wolfswinkle ($5,000), James Forrest ($4,200)
