Sunday and Monday’s slate throws up three intriguing encounters in the most exciting football league in the world as Liverpool attempt to keep pace with Chelsea and Man City at the very top. Ahead of the three games that round off the weekend, here’s the best two players to pick at every single position and why they deserve a spot in your line-ups.
Victor Valdes – ($5,400) – Middlesbrough – Whilst Boro’s home form is nothing to write home about, Hull’s run of form away from home is so bad that picking Valdes is a no brainer. The Spanish keeper kept a clean sheet and scored 14 fantasy points in a game against a team in Bournemouth who are comparable in quality to Hull. Simply put, just rely on Hull to be bad away from home and benefit from what will likely be a win-clean sheet combo for Valdes.
Adam Federici – ($4,100) – Bournemouth – No team likes to shoot more than Liverpool, their 252 shots way out in front of everyone else. This plays into the hands of a goalkeeper in Adam Federici who made six saves two weeks ago against Stoke City. Also, Philippe Coutinho’s absence extinguishes a big part of Liverpool’s goal threat and is another tick in the Federici column, especially at this very low price.
James Milner – ($6,800) – Liverpool – Is there anything that James Milner, defender, cannot do when it comes to fantasy footy?! The Englishman helped himself to 27 fantasy points in the 2-0 win over Sunderland last weekend and it was the third time in a row that his score has topped the 10-point mark. He is Liverpool’s joint second top scorer, and the fact he takes corners and penalties makes him a must-pick.
Fabio – ($4,000) – Middlesbrough – An injury to George Friend has opened a place for the former Manchester United and Cardiff City full back who loves to get forward. The Brazilian defender had just five points last weekend against Leicester but Hull are a much lesser side who don’t score a lot of goals and concede plenty. Expect a bit of action from Fabio on both sides of the ball.
Sadio Mane – ($8,900) – Liverpool – The Reds have been hit by a mini injury crisis heading into this game and Mane is the one star midfielder who will 100% start. The former Southampton man is their top scorer with six goals this season and averages 2.5 shots per game, a number that only Coutinho and Roberto Firmino can better.
Adama Traore – ($5,800) – Middlesbrough – A graduate of Barca’s La Masia academy, Traore possesses raw pace and, after two tough games, this week should be the one where we see him make a telling contribution. Even without a goal or an assist, Traore has averaged 10 FPPG over his last two and is Europe’s leading dribbler with six dribbles per game. At this price, he’s certainly worth picking.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic – ($8,600) – Man Utd – The Swedish powerhouse is in the midst of one of the those scoring runs where no one seems to be able to stop him. It’s now five goals in four games in all competitions and in the league, it’s three goals in two games. Zlatan leads the Premier League’s shooting chart with 5.3 shots per game and Everton’s defensive form suggests his scoring run won’t be coming to an end this weekend.
Callum Wilson – ($5,900) – Bournemouth – Liverpool have looked very shaky at the back this season and Wilson will want to put them to the test this weekend. The striker scored his fourth goal of the season last weekend against Arsenal and with Jack Wilshere expected to return this week, Wilson will have chances to make it to five goals. A win is probably beyond Bournemouth but scoring a goal shouldn’t be and Wilson is their best prospect at that.
